Memorial Day is a day where most people barbeque and spend time with friends and family. For those of us who had the honor of knowing a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice, this rainy day setting this Memorial Day in Texas feels more appropriate. I had the pleasure of knowing a young man, Jeffrey Burgess, during my time in the Marine Corps. On March 25th, 2004 at a young age of 20 years old he was taken from us when engaged by the enemy near Fallujah, Iraq. The meaning of this day has been crystal clear since. Memorial Day is a day to be thankful for what we have, and to recognize why we continue to be free. It is a day to recognize the sacrifices our fellow Americans have made for all of us.
Thank you to all of the fallen, thank you to our wounded, some of which are still fighting a battle, and thank you to the families of these brave men and women who make our dream possible.
