FN Reflex : A First Look at the Micro Compact Offering from FN

In a time when the market for reliable, striker fire, 9mm, Micro Compact handguns seems to be at it’s fill FN unveiled its entry into this realm- The FN Reflex. What makes this gun different? Why would someone choose the Reflex over say offerings from SIG, Glock, HK, Taurus, Ruger, Mossberg, Smith & Wesson, Canik, or Springfield? Let’s dive in and take a look at what separates this gun from the other pistols in the Micro Compact class and why you may want to shoot it.

We are past talking about the Micro Compact as a new trend. The fact that FN, one of the largest producers of arms in the world, is just coming to the table with a Micro Compact 9 is astonishing really. We assume that all gun manufacturers follow trends as quickly as possible but this doesn’t seem to be the case with the FN Reflex. They took their sweet time and for good reason.

With two different versions in the hopper, Reflex MRD(Micro Red Dot Ready) and the standard Reflex now available this gun is ready for concealed carry and range use. The first goes without saying, but the later is something that can’t be said for all Micro Compact guns. This gun has a crisp “best in class” trigger, stippled grip, great ergonomics, hammer forged and crowned barrel, and Three dot high contrast, orange and Tritium night sights these guns are accurate and comfortable to shoot. This is not something that is commonly said when it comes to this smaller class of guns.

The FN Reflex Pistol is a scaled down version of the super popular, ultra reliable and accurate FN 509 series guns. There is a lot to like about the sizing of the Reflex, especially when accounting for the capacity. This gun has 27 rounds of 9mm ready to go between the two factory mags, one holding 11 rounds and the other allowing for 15 rounds and a grip extension. So you can choose to have 16 rounds ready to go and 11 to back it up or more likely 12 ready to go with 15 rounds on deck.
